Luuup is the most-funded pet product on Kickstarter ever: $1.17+ million. They went on to raise another $1.6M on Indiegogo.
In the mid-90’s, Luuup (then QuickSand) sold 2 million units in just 13 months through The Home Shopping Channel. Luuup is now proving it can pace the original success solely using D2C digital marketing.
Commerce Garage was approached by Luuup in late 2016 to provide it’s suite of marketing solutions to lead the aggressive initiative while remaining on the right side of profitability. These have included initiatives on social ad platforms like Facebook Ads, YouTube, Instagram, and Pinterest, paid search initiatives on Google Adwords/Bing Ads, email automation, conversion optimization and analytics.

We built uniquely crafted Facebook Ads to drive conversion performance across all stages of the marketing funnel. Launching video ads geared towards delivering both massive uplift in awareness and conversions was a cornerstone to Luuup’s success in reducing their cost per acquisition. Over the course of our first 4 months we were able to significantly improve CPMs, CPCs and CTRs across the board, delivering more traffic for fewer dollars and ultimately leading to a huge lift in net sales and profitability.
For newly launched brands like Luuup, google search was a great solution capturing a significant portion of lower funnel, intent-based conversions. With the massive awareness gains through our Facebook ads, both branded and unbranded keyword search volume also increased making google search a major contributor to total ROAS performance.
With over 40 million households in the U.S. owning on average 2.2 cats, exploring marketing channels outside of facebook and google to reach our core demographic was a must-do. Pinterest was a perfect solution. On Pinterest we were able drive high volumes of web traffic for a fraction of the cost of other digital channels.
We launched google display remarketing to stay top of mind for Luuup’s site visitors as they navigated other parts of the web. Increasing impression volume across the web for a very targeted group of people proved to reduce the overall CPA. While not being a significant click-through contributor to the conversion, the attribution of view-through conversions for non-converting website visitors was massive.
